Happy New Year Stitchers!
The new year brings with it a sense of optimism and an opportunity to really reflect on what we want to achieve in the coming 12 months.
As I've gotten older, I've moved away from making resolutions, (especially the ones that involve placing high expectations on myself) and moved towards setting intentions at the start of the year.
So think of it as a less committed, more strategic version of a resolution - a touch more vague - but a way of focussing the mindset.
After 10+ years of sewing (5+ as a business owner) it's fair to say I have a well established handmade wardrobe.
It didn't happen quickly, it's taken years of adding pieces here and there to get to the point that when I open my wardrobe doors in the morning, around 80% of it is sewn by myself.
Whilst pretty cool (don't get me wrong I'm really proud of it!) I've never aspired to be 100% handmade. I really respect those that do, but I don't personally want to sew every last thing or I might lose the joy of the hobby and see it more as a chore than a creative outlet.
So that brings me to my intentions for 2025.
Well really, there's just one.
"In 2025, I will sew garments that bring me joy, express my creativity & personality and make me feel good".
Yes, I am a self proclaimed queen of the wearable basic but this year, I feel like letting my hair down and sewing a few fancy frocks - whether I need them or not.
Sewing is all about joy, creativity and self expression and I don't want to forget that along the way in the pursuit of practicality.
I'll update you as we go along!
In the meantime, share your sewing intentions in the comments!
Take care & happy sewing, Jenny xxx
