We love to welcome visitors here at Jenny Stitches!
There's nothing better than getting your hands on some fabric, and what better way to do it than in a lovely fabric shop.
Where is it?!
With supermarkets and local attractions, Barrow-in-Furness makes a great day out as your Lake District holiday, many even find staying here a little less expensive than the busy tourist areas too.
Or, if you're a die hard fabric fan and just want to take a trip out to soak up the friendly atmosphere, here's everything you need to know.
Getting here & parking
Jenny Stitches is located on Dalton Road, in the heart of Barrow-in-Furness town centre.
By car - leave the M6 at Junction 36, follow the signs to Barrow and the Lake District Peninsulas via the A590. On arriving in Barrow, reach the town centre via Abbey Road.
Parking - The closest car park to the shop is Oldham Street, located directly behind the shop. This car park is short stay, with a maximum duration of 3 hours, so if you're wanting to make a day of it (stay for lunch, check out our other wonderful retailers), you might prefer to park long stay at Greengate Street or Paradise Street which are both a short walk away. Ideal if you're staying for an all day workshop or social.
By rail - It's a short walk (approximately 10 minutes) from Barrow-in-Furness railway station to the town centre, along Abbey Road and directly up Dalton Road to our shop.
Is there anywhere I can get some lunch?
The most common question we are asked by visitors is where to grab something to eat.
Our town centre has a variety of eateries to suit everybody's tastes, from fast food outlets such as McDonalds to quiet side street Bistros.
Here are a few of my favourites:
The Hive Cafe and Bistro - Tapas style dishes in a beautifully decorated setting, the Hive has great food and a wonderful atmosphere.

Salvanas - Traditional Italian food, every local knows and loves Salvos! They even do a lunch time special.

The Duke of Edinburgh - If you are travelling by train, you can't miss the Duke as it's right by the station. Serving good food in a relaxed atmosphere, they have a great range of drinks and a specials menu.

Where is the beach?
There's a really great guide to our coastline on the Visit Barrow website:

Can you recommend anywhere else to visit whilst I'm here?
We have a number of visitor attractions here in Barrow, here's a few of my favourites for a family day out:
The Dock Museum - A free local museum, settled inside a former Graving Dock. The exhibits tell the fascinating history of the town and its industrial past. There's also a brilliant kids playground, a cafe and the opportunity to take scenic walks along the side of Walney Channel.
Furness Abbey - The impressive ruins of what was once the largest and wealthiest monastery in north-west England. Furness Abbey is a true hidden gem, tuck away from the main road in a quiet vale, it's an impressive sight! There's also a lovely little cafe nearby - Abbey Mill, which serves lovely coffees and snacks.

Safari Zoo Cumbria - The zoo is home to over 1000 species of rare and exotic animals, such as tigers, elephants, giraffes, wallabies and emus.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway - Not so much within Barrow but on the road to/from, this delightful little steam railway is a lovely family day out. Trains run from Haverthwaite to the east side of Windermere, where's there's also an aquarium and you can connect to a lake ferry to continue exploring the Lake District.
