Learn to Sew - Complete Beginners 6 Week Course (January 2026)

Start your sewing journey with confidence – no experience needed!

Join us at Jenny Stitches for a relaxed and welcoming 6-week course designed especially for beginners (or anyone in need of a refresh). You'll learn how to use a sewing machine, understand fabric and patterns, and complete a range of simple, satisfying projects.

By the end of the course, you’ll be confidently threading your machine, sewing seams, reading patterns and finishing garments with pride – all in the company of fellow stitchers and a cuppa or two.

You’ll learn:

• How to thread and operate a sewing machine.

• Fabric types and how to choose the right one.

• Reading and understanding sewing patterns.

• Creating your own tote bag, zipped make up bag and stretch fabric project.

Includes all materials, expert tuition, and plenty of encouragement.

No pressure, no judgement – just a lovely way to learn a lifelong skill.

Course Dates: Thursday 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th January, 5th & 12th February

Course Times: 6pm-9pm (18 hours total).

Workshop Location: 

Jenny Stitches, Unit 1, 78-80 Dalton Road, Barrow-in-Furness.

• Printed companion guide with bonus resources.
• Use of in house tools and sewing machines (if needed).

Class Sewing Machines and Tools

Here at Jenny Stitches we want sewing to be as accessible for as many people as possible! We have a number of in house Janome sewing machines available for use at no additional charge. We also provide basic tool kits. If however, you prefer to use your own machine and tools, please feel free to bring them along with you on the day.

Meet your tutor

Jenny has been sewing for over 15 years, and in that time she's made possibly every mistake in the book - some of them twice! She now boasts a fully handmade wardobe (which she even wears!) and a fabric collecting problem that resulted in the award winning Jenny Stitches. It's safe to say that in that time, she's learned a few tricks and she's excited to be a part of your creative journey.
